Bench and Back Cushion
Another project was for a bench at our martial arts school. The bench is just inside our back door and is used to remove street shoes before entering the training and parent area.
The brown material is corduroy and the dragon print I found at Wal-mart. I realized that I didn't have enough of the brown material and decided to add dragon print panels to the bench cushion. On paper, I drew four different designs for the placement of the panels. I could have made it easy on myself and just added one larger panel, but the two panels on each end of the bench looked the best.
I checked the price of foam at my local fabric store but that was way too expensive, The bench cushion hack is that I purchased a chaise lounge cushion used for outdoor patio furntiure. I have been waiting for the price to come down and waited for a end of season sale. I snagged it for a mere twenty-three dollars. I covered the material with the corduroy. I did have to add three inches of padding to each end of the cushion because it wasn't long enough to cover the whole bench.
The back cushion was measured perfectly, but I began to doubt myself and added a few more inches. Unfortunately adding these couple of inches kept the material from lying completely flat. But I still love the results.
Paisley Vest
I made this "steam-punk" vest for Beloved. When I found the pattern, I knew he would love it. Fully lined (my first attempt at lining), it came out pretty well.
